Article writing is a great way to promote yourself online, as well as affiliate or CPA offers, as a way to generate extra passive residual income.

The type of articles I am referring to are not print articles, but rather digital articles. Digital articles have many benefits over magazine or newspaper articles, such as the fact that they are evergreen. Once digital articles are posted to the internet they stay there, gaining more traction each day, as opposed to print articles, which appear in the publication once before they are thrown away.

Digital article writing is very accessible, because anyone can write one and post it online, whereas only very few people ever get the opportunity to write for magazines or newspapers, and when they do they are not able to write about any topic they wish, especially not about themselves.

Digital articles rank on search engines according to the keywords that they contain, so you can be sure that people who are searching for the kind of information that you can provide will find your article. This makes it possible for your subject matter to be very specific, because the more niche your article is, the more laser-targeted the leads it generates will be. In online marketing, targeting is everything.

Writing digital articles is a better strategy than online advertising for a number of reasons. Firstly, people are constantly bombarded with advertising each day to the point that they are trained to ignore conventional advertising. Why put time, money and effort into something that people are predisposed to ignore? Articles contain information, and information is the reason for most searches conducted on the internet. By writing an article you can, in effect, advertise to your target market through providing them something that they want. An article is something that your prospects not only pay attention to, but actually crave. If you provide what they need, they will remember you.

Articles set you apart from all of the other advertisers. Any of your competitors can pay to advertise, but if you freely provide value, you are positioning yourself as an expert in your field. People buy into people, and people also gravitate towards those that they perceive as experts. Articles help people. There is a universal law, which many successful people have found to be true, that states that the amount of money you make is proportional to the amount of people that you help.

So how do you “advertise” your business or product through digital articles? Well, you cannot plug anything in the article itself. The body of the articles is strictly reserved to give valuable information and to position you as an authoritative expert. All articles can have a section at the end reserved for the author’s mini-biography. This is where you talk a bit about yourself and give up to two links to your website, affiliate offer, or anything else that you want to promote. This is where the “selling” is subtly done. Outright and blatant selling chases people away, but innocently providing further information and ways for people to contact you builds trust and rapport with your online audience. People do not like to be sold to, but they do like to spend money, so article marketing can use this human trait to your advantage.

Article marketing, if done consistently, will provide a steady and increasing flow of traffic to anything that you want to promote online, but the best advice I can give you is to simply start doing it.
